Steel Buildings in Europe

Part 10: Technical Software Specification for Composite Beams 10 - 7 1 SCOPE This document is aimed at software developers to enable them to develop a simple software tool for the design of composite beams in multi-storey buildings, according to EN 1994-1-1 [1] . This document can also been regarded as a guide to understand the functioning of existing software in the same field of application. This guide does not contain programming code; it only contains detailed technical requirements. This document covers simply supported composite beams comprising a rolled profile connected by welded shear studs to a concrete slab. Several options are considered:  Primary or secondary beams  Plain slab or slab with profiled steel sheeting  Fully propped or unpropped beams during construction. These technical requirements include:  The calculation of internal forces and moments  The verifications of the beam for ULS  The calculations for SLS  The calculation of the composite beam is based on the plastic resistance using full or partial connection. The design procedure is summarized in the flowcharts given in Appendix A.
