In some instances, it may not be possible to restrain the inside of the column flange. In these circumstances, a larger column section may have to be chosen, which is stable between the underside of the haunch and the base. 1 1 1 Restraint to inside flange of rafter and column Figure 3.9 General arrangement of restraints to the inside flange In all cases, the junction of the inside face of the column and the underside of the haunch, as shown in Figure 3.10, must be restrained.
