The diagonals and posts are connected to the gussets, usually by bolting. When the chords are made of IPE or HEA/HEB sections, the most common connection method is also to use a welded gusset plate on the chord. The gusset plate is attached to the flange when the section is upright (vertical web), and to the web when the section is flat (horizontal web). An alternative solution is to design a welded connection without gussets, as shown in Figure 5.6.
