Part 8: Building Envelope 8 - 36 Hot rolled purlins have the added advantage of better fire resistance than light gauge cold formed purlins. This is shown by the noticeably higher inherent Massivity factor (cross section area/perimeter) which is used as a measure to define the fire resistance of a structural section.
